Brief Description


The Logistics Manager, Load Planning is accountable for optimizing load planning operations; measure and monitor existing processes, programs and services to identify and prioritize opportunities for improvement. Build critical transportation and logistics competencies and capabilities that effectively impact business results.Create time and seek opportunities to learn the business and establish a clear point-of-view about how SLI can help the business achieve its goals. The Manager will use a hands-on problem solving approach with customers, suppliers, carriers and other support personnel.

Detailed Description


1. Gain consistency, analyze and implement improvements to current internal and external systems and processes in order to streamline and simplify operations
2. Analyze and review customer transportation network to identify cost savings opportunities
3. Develop positive collaborative relationships with third party providers, carriers, suppliers and end customers
4. Make recommendations regarding dedicated lanes, continuous moves, route designs and other mode and savings opportunities.
5. Analyze the financial impact of changes in routing, mode, equipment, carrier, sourcing, parts, packaging, volume and/or product mix
6. Recommend optimal routing, mode, equipment and frequency for all suppliers.
7. Complete miscellaneous transportation and logistics cost analyses as requested by customer or Account Management
8. Assist in the carrier and supplier start-up of accounts
9. Identify and resolve customer/carrier/supplier issues regarding daily transactional items.
10. Resolve operational carrier, supplier and end customer issues
11. Understand and report carrier performance to include service,
12. Lead team of non-exempt associates in optimizing load planning activities
13. Drive higher levels of associate engagement to increase performance and retention.
14. Maintain team effectiveness and morale as demonstrated by positive actions, attitudes and judgment.


Job Requirements


1. College Degree in logistics or related field preferred and/or 5plus years of experience in Logistics
2. Experience in Transportation / Logistics, required.
3. Experienced with Excel, Access and PowerPoint
4. Experience preferred with Schneider suite of tools; SUMIT, Rate Server, etc.
5. Strong written and verbal communication skills: demonstrated ability to interface with customers and carriers at various levels.
6. Effective planning, organization and documentation skills.
7. Ability to use sound judgment and decision-making skills.
8. Proven ability to effectively perform in a self-directed work environment.
9. Must be a team player and able to provide direction and support to other team members
10. Proven peer leadership skills to address issues and influence change
11. Flexible, open to change and able to handle ever-changing priorities
12. Willingness to accept ownership and be accountable for a specific set of key factors.
