Video interviewing is a growing trend in recruitment. Not only does it make the interview process more convenient for candidates who live far away from the company's office, but it can also give hiring managers a fuller picture of a candidate's suitability for a role than traditional face-to-face interviewing. Here are some video recruitment trends that are likely to be important in the near future.

Video Job Postings

Job seekers know that job postings are often badly written, unclear and give little insight into the hiring organization. In the future, video job postings could replace the traditional written advertisements, allowing companies to give a clearer impression of the company atmosphere, the duties involved in the advertised role and the type of candidate sought. Video job posts are often more interesting and engaging than text-based ones, meaning that companies that use them could have an easier time attracting candidates.

Smart Watch Interviews

One of the greatest benefits of video interviewing is the convenience it offers to hiring managers. Smart watches could allow the employers of the future to interview candidates while they are on the go. For example, an employer could use smart-watch video interviewing to screen candidates during a boring journey, rather than taking up valuable time in the office.

Snapchat

Snapchat is an app that lets smartphone users share short videos, then deletes them as soon as they have been viewed. Using Snapchat as a platform for video interviewing forces candidates to communicate their key skills in a short space of time -- and in a memorable way. One Irish employer already accepts job applications via Snapchat, and it's possible that more could follow as video interviewing catches on.

Video References

Written references are often dry, dull and similar for every candidate. However, when a candidate's former employer appears on video, it can be much easier to deduce what he really thinks of his former employee.

Screen-Sharing Tests

Some video interviewing software lets candidates share their screens with the interviewer. This technology could be used to assess candidates' skills in real time, perhaps by setting a coding problem or other computer-related test. Watching candidates perform in real time is one of the best ways for employers to find out whether they really have the right skills for the job.

Job Offer Announcements

Future employers could announce the offer of a job not via the traditional letter or phone call, but via a video that is shared with the candidate or posted on social media. This is a much more engaging way to welcome the candidate on board.

The recruitment trends listed above could all radically change the hiring process from what it is today. Video interviewing is likely to play an important role in recruitment in the future.
